12 mistakes women make with men

Dating

mistakes women make with men

After giving it plenty of time and consideration, I’ve decided to finally unleash my inner Carrie Bradshaw. She wasn’t exactly an expert when it came to men and frankly, neither am I.

However, I do have some very interesting stories that pretty much go from one extreme to another  – that’s putting it lightly.

Also, after hearing stories from female friends as well as other women, I think it’s fair to say we’ve all made one or two of these mistakes at least once in our lives of being ‘young and naive.’

1. Confusing sex with love
Most of the time, sex is sex – nothing more, nothing less.

2. Getting too attached
Being invited over should never EVER translate to leaving your toothbrush at his – even if you did stay the night.

3. Overanalysing
The thinking: the constant and endless thinking that’s enough to put us in a straight jacket. Maybe, just maybe, the words ‘okay then,’ really just mean ‘okay then’.

4. Not making them work for it
Don’t just give it to any Tom, Dick or Harry who comes along, make them work for it – make them earn what they want.

5. Making them work too hard
The opposite applies too. Push them too far off the edge and they just might stay there! I guess the key here is just to find the right balance (let me know when you’ve found it!)

6. Opening up too soon
This pretty much sends them running to the hills. No poems, no love letters, no confessions – just don’t do it.

7. Putting them up on a pedestal
No good can ever come of putting your man, lover or crush up on a pedestal.

8. Emasculating them
I’m all for girl power and the whole women rule the world jazz, but let’s be honest; men like to set the pace. Sometimes, leaving the ball in their court will show you whether or not he’s really interested.

9. Expecting them to change
Change comes from within so don’t hold your breath if you think he’s going to give up one of his ‘bad habits’ before he’s ready. We think they’re going to change and they think we won’t – what a beautiful world we live in!

10. Becoming someone else
Women who change themselves for men are only setting themselves out for disappointment. Especially since the truth always comes out in the end.

11. Being too available
Nobody wants an eager beaver; it’s never a good look either on a woman or a man for that matter.

12. Expecting too much
At this stage, I’ve realised that sometimes it’s better to just count the blessings that are already there than to complain about the things that aren’t!

So there you have it, 12 mistakes women make with men straight from the horses mouth ( I kid!) but I can’t say I’m not guilty here! Feel free to share any thoughts you might have down below 🙂

6 beauty tips for getting rid of dark circles

maintenance/ Natural beauty/ Tips

beauty tips

We’ve all been there: that one week where you’re overloaded with work overload and you just can’t seem to catch a break. That one time you desperately need a few hours of self-pampering – except when you finally do get the chance, you completely regret looking at your reflection in the mirror.

Yes, we’ve all been there.

Dark circles can be a total beauty nightmare and more often than not, they are usually a sign of sleep deprivation – unless of course you’ve had them all your life (our genes don’t always work in our favour).

When it comes to treating dark circles, one of the most common remedies is to cut a few slices of cucumbers and put them over your eyelids. But in severe case, cucumbers just won’t work and you will have to try a few other things to conquer this beauty problem:

1. Get more sleep
Of course a full night of shut-eye won’t keep dark circles at bay, but since a lot of the times dark circles are a sign of sleep deprivation, it’s a good idea to clock in a few more hours in La La Land.

2. Drink more water
In some cases, dehydration can be the cause of dark circles. Try your best to get at least eight glasses of water each day. If you get bored of drinking normal water, you could be more adventurous and try one of these.

lemon water

3. Maybe some milk
The protein and enzymes in milk can help heal certain skin problems. Dab a bit of cotton into chilled milk and apply it over your eyelids for about 15 minutes. Do this a couple of times a week until you see results.

4. Watch your diet
Dark circles can also be a sign of a poor diet. Lay off the junk and try to eat more fresh fruit and vegetables – eventually it will shine through in your face.

5. Almond oil
Apply a few drops of almond oil around your dark circles and gently massage it in before you go to bed. This natural oil will help moisturise and lighten this part of your skin.

6. Rose water
Soak some cotton wool into rose water and apply over eyelids for 10 – 15 minutes. This will help rejuvenate the skin around your eye area, giving it a brighter appearance.

Do you have any tips for easing dark circles around the eyes? If so, feel free to share them with me!

Do’s and Don’ts for gaining weight healthily

fitness/ weight

black-woman-on-scale

As hard as it may seem to believe, there are some people out there whose goals consist nothing of losing weight or finding ‘the perfect diet’. Instead, they are working towards putting on a few kilos because no matter how much they eat, they just can’t seem to put on any amount of weight.

While this is a dream for some, it is a nightmare for others – especially when these people are subjected to being called ‘too skinny’ or even ‘anorexic’ in some cases – oh, I know this all too well!

So if you want to gain weight in the healthiest way possible, then here are a few Do’s and Don’ts you might want to consider:

  • DO consume more calories than you’re burning.
  • DON’T spend your time binge eating.
  • DO blend your food and take it in a liquid form – this will help you consume more calories.
  • DON’T overdo it with the cardio – it’s your worst enemy right about now.
  • DO include some light exercise in your weekly routine, this will help you convert fat into muscle.
  • DON’T become besties with junk food – you want healthy fats, not bad fats!
  • DO keep track of what you eat.
  • DON’T skip any meals – aim to have at least six small meals a day.
  • DO get your 8 to 9 hours of sleep each night. This will give your body the time it needs to build muscle as you rest.
  • DON’T check the weighing scale every single day – you will only disappoint yourself!
  • DO include a lot of protein in your diet i.e. chicken, fish, nuts etc.
  • DON’T be afraid of carbs – they will help keep your calories up.
  • DO keep snacks with you at all times.
  • DON’T get discouraged if you don’ see results soon, it’s all about being consistent and having patience!

Hopefully these tips will help you gain the extra kilo or two! Let us know how you get on if you do decide to try them out 🙂

Highlighting and contouring

Beauty

Highlighting attracts and contouring detracts

Those are the cardinal rules to highlighting and contouring, something that anybody who has even the slightest interest in makeup should know so if you’re going to know anything about makeup, let it be this….

Do you ever wonder how Tyra Banks has a nose that looks so perfectly narrow, or how Kim K has those perfectly shaped cheekbones? Well believe you me, it’s not all natural and let me assure you that this look can be achieved by everyone and anyone with this simple little ‘trick’ called highlighting and contouring.

So what exactly is highlighting and contouring??
It’s all about bringing dimension and glow to the face! With the highlighting you bring out your features and draw attention to certain areas while the contouring does the opposite by diminishes other areas, almost like a shadow effect.
So what do you need:
1. Highlighters – Mac prep + prime highlighter is great (just under 30E)
 2.Contours – E.L.F Contouring Blush & Bronzer (cheap and cheerful! $3)
3.Foundation –  the usual (it should match your skin tone)
4.Setting powder – optional
Note:
Always moisturize your face before applying any make up! You don’t want your face to appear dry….
how to highlight and contour

Kim K revealed…..

-Now that you know what you need, first start with applying the highlighter in the V area of your forehead, down your nose, under the eyes, cheekbones, on your brow line and chin as pictured above.
-Using a shade much darker than usual, contour under the cheekbones, on the temple, near the hair line, your jawline and contour the sides of the nose as well to make it appear thinner.
Note: if you look a bit scary after this, you’re on the right track!
-Now with a foundation that matches your skin tone blend everything in with a large brush and the lines should fade away gradually, eventually you see dimension just  blend blend blend!
If you use a setting powder, apply lightly to the face but generally, after this 3 step process you should have a beautifully defined , sculpted, yet NATURAL look!
This process takes the longest in my makeup application so if you spend over an hour on your face and you’re NOT highlighting and contouring, then I really don’t know what you’re doing!
What takes you the longest to complete in your makeup application process?
Feel free leave comments and share!
Thanks for reading yet another long post! Hope you’ve enjoyed it!

How to put mascara on like a pro

Eyes

featured

During the summer days, I like to keep my makeup to the minimum: a bit of lip gloss here, some eyebrow pencil there and of course, a pea size amount of face primermy holy grail beauty product. Less is certainly more I think, especially when you want to avoid having a makeup meltdown.

However, the one product I do enjoy layering up a couple of times is my mascarawaterproof mascara.  I absolutely love big lashes and I think they really add some life to my face. Not to mention how much little effort put on mascara requires.

If you want to draw immediate positive attention to your eyes, then you can follow these steps:

Step 1: Look straight and put the mascara wand at the base of your upper lash. Wiggle it from side to side while going in an upward direction.
Step 2: Coat the inner and outer part of your lashes until they have the length that you’re looking for.
Step 3: Let this dry so that it adds volume to your lashes the second time you coat.
Step 4: In the meantime, tilt your head a bit forward and then coat the bottom lash from the root to the tips – Don’t forget to wiggle!
Step 5: Repeat the process one more time and then let your lashes dry again.
Step 6: Use the tip of the wand to swipe across the tips of your upper lashes to extend them.

scandel tips

Notes:
Do keep some cotton buds handy in case you have a little accident!
Don’t pump the mascara wand in and out of the tube. Instead, twist it in a circular motion until you get the desired amount of product.
Do scrape off any excess mascara from the wand before you apply.

Didn’t I tell you it was such an easy process? Enjoy the sun ladies!

9 healthy ways to conquer sugar cravings

Not so guilty pleasure

9 ways to conquer

Let’s face it, it’s pretty hard to eat clean 100% of the time. With tempting adverts all over the media and friends and family who practically make it their job to have you drooling all over and wanting a slice of your favourite dessert, you can easily fall off track.

Luckily, you don’t always have to give in to these temptations because like most things, a sugar craving can be conquered with foods and drinks that aren’t so bad for you –in moderation, that is.

While some of these suggestions might not work for everyone, I’ve certainly found one or two of them pretty useful for combating my sugar fix and they tend to get pretty serious in certain times of the month – sorry lads!

1. Bananas
This is my go-to snack when I have a bit of a sweet tooth. Not only are they naturally sweet, but they’re also great for keeping your tummy full and your body energised.

2. Dried fruit
From raisins to prunes and dried apricots and cranberries – there are just so many to choose from.

3. Carrots
Here’s another one of my go-to snacks. I like to have them raw and chunky and the best part about carrots is, they’re ridiculously cheap!

4. Coconut water
It’s naturally sweet, refreshing and a single glass has a lot of health benefits. Have a look here to find out the beauty benefits of this super drink.

coconutwa

5. Protein bars
Instead of reaching for a Snickers bar, head straight to the kitchen and make a few homemade protein bars for yourself. One of my delicious recipes actually does taste like snickers (no joke!).

6. Smoothies
I genuinely feel like you can’t go wrong with homemade smoothies. You decide what you put in it, you decide how much of it you want and YOU decide how much of it you’re going to drink – the ball is in your court.

7. Strawberries, raspberries, cherries…
Need I go on?

8. Aloe vera water
I’ve just been hooked on this stuff for a really long time now. Sometimes I feel like the sweetness of aloe vera water is enough to conquer more than just one sugar craving – it’s nearly enough to keep me going for a few weeks!

9.Just get moving
That’s right, do a bit of exercise and get your blood flowing. The last you want if for all your hard work to go to waste, so the more you exercise, the less you’ll want to give in – it works for me anyways!

D.I.Y Ginger detox bath

D.I.Y

ginger diy detox

If you’ve never heard of a detox bath until today, then you’re probably wondering why you’ll ever need one. Well, as you already know, we live in a world full of toxins and lurking bacteria, so a detox bath is a great way of getting rid of all those bad toxins that build up in the body every day.

So how exactly does this work?

It’s simple really, when it comes to a detox bath, sweating is the name of the game. Sweating is a very powerful way of getting rid of nasty toxins from the body and by adding some ginger to a hot tub, you can go the extra mile – without actually running!

Here’s what you’ll need for a ginger detox bath:

–  2 tbsp ground ginger
–  Tub of comfortably hot water (the operative word being ‘comfortably’)

1, Fill the tub and add three tablespoons of ground ginger. If you don’t have ground ginger, you can use freshly grated ginger instead.
2, Mix it up and then soak yourself in the bath for about 25 minutes.
3, After a while, you will feel your body sweating, so it’s a good idea to keep some bottled water handy.

By the end of this, you’ll be sweating like a pig – even an hour or two after you’re out of the bath! So remember to wear light clothing and drink plenty of water when you’re done.

Apparently a ginger detox bath is also good for warding off the symptoms of an oncoming cold – prevention is better than cure right?

2-ingredient juice cleanse recipe

Not so guilty pleasure/ recipes

beetroot

I have recently become obsessed with beetroot. I know, it’s a weird obsession to have, but I suppose it could be a lot worse.

Beetroots are well-known for helping the whole detoxification process. They help purify your blood and your liver, so if you’re on a juice cleanse or if you need something after a night of heavy drinking, then this is the stuff for you.

The anti-inflammatory properties of beets helps protect the skin from pre-mature aging and if you dab some juice on your face, it helps control blemishes.

If you’re a fitness junkies, then you’ll be happy to hear that beet juice helps improve stamina. So if you want to last longer during a workout – of any shape of form, then a glass of beet juice can help you do that.

If that’s not enough to get you juicing this superfood, then I don’t know what is!

Here’s what you need:

  • 1 beet
  • 1 stalk of celery
  • Water to facilitate blending

1. Put all the ingredients in a blender and process until smooth.
2. Filter the contents into a glass using a sieve.
3. Put whatever is left in the sieve, back in the blender and add some more water.
4. Blend and repeat process.

I hope you get the chance to give this recipe a try, it’s so simple make and actually tastes pretty good!

Top 3 primers for smooth skin

product review/ Top products

primer collage

Now that the sun has finally started to come out, it’s only fair that I do a review on the products you (and I) will probably need in the next couple of weeks (if we’re lucky, that is).

bareMinerals Prime Time
This is a reasonably priced primer that has a velvety finish. Unlike the other two, the bareMinerals Prime Time is gel based. This means, it’s pretty easy to work with. It’s great for flaky skin as well as oily skin (as long as you only use a pea-size amount). I don’t think it does much for hiding pores, but it does help your makeup stay put for much longer.
PRICE: €23.00, Debenhams

Garnier 5 Sec Blur
This primer is perfect for older gals as it’s great for filling in fine lines and wrinkles. It creates a smooth base for your foundation and you only really have to use a tiny bit of product to get the full effect. The mousse-like consistency makes it the perfect dupe for Clarins Instant Smooth Perfecting Touch, meaning you get the same results for only a fraction of the price!
PRICE: €16.39, Boots

Benefit The POREfessional
If you read my review on this primer, you’d know that I’m a big fan of it. I think it pretty much does what is says on the tin (minus the smoother than silk part). It has lasted me for over nine months now and I still have a lot of product left – that’s what you call getting your money’s worth! Have a look at the full review of this product here.
