9 things to know about applying winged liner

Eyes/ Makeup/ Tips

eye liner cover photo

Do you sometimes wonder how some girls have the most perfect winged liner? Or more precisely, how they manage to keep their eye makeup looking flawless while yours is close to smudging away? Well, we’ve all been on that boat at some stage or another but thankfully, it’s not a place you’ll be revisiting any time soon!

Although having steady hands plays a big part in having your liner next to perfect, having the right tools is just as important.

Here are 9 things you should know about applying eyeliner:

1. Start off clean
There’s nothing worse than applying makeup on a not-so-clean face. Make sure you’ve cleansed, toned and moisturised your face well before applying any make up on it.

2. Tools are everything
The quality of your makeup tools are just as important of the quality of the products you use.  A good quality eye liner brush will help give you maximum definition and precision. For best results, use a super thin brush!

3. Time is the essence
If Leonardo Da Vinci rushed The Last Supper, then it probably wouldn’t be the masterpiece that it is today. Remember, one little slip could cost you a lot so just take your time with it.

4. Hands-free mirror
Look down into a hands-free mirror so this way you can keep your eyes partly opened as you line. Tilt your chin upwards and look directly into your mirror instead of straight on.

5. Gel liner helps
If you aren’t gifted with steady hands(not many of us are), then try using a gel liner with a good quality eye liner brush. With a gel liner, you have more control over how much product you use.

6. Connect the dot
Sometimes it’s hard to get the perfect line in one go. One of the easiest ways to do this is to draw small dots extending out from your bottom lash line before connecting them to make your wings –it works 99.9% of the time!

7. Go waterproof
Nobody wants to end up with panda eyes – a look that is most likely to happen around this time of year! One of the best ways to avoid ending up smudged eyes is to use a waterproof liner.

8. Prevent smudging
Top up your liner with some black eye shadow. This will help the liner stay on put for much longer and it’ll also prevent it from smudging.

9. Tidy up
It’s always a good idea to tidy up around the edges. If you want a sharp and clean finish, use a cotton bud to tidy up around the inner corner of your eyes. Finish off with some concealer under the line. This will give it more precision.

And there you have it, 9 things to know about applying winged liner.  If you have any more tips to add to this list, feel free to comment below!giveaway time

5 major eyebrow mistakes you’re probably making

brows/ eyebrows/ Eyes

mistakes with eye brows

As you might have already guessed, I am big into eyebrows and if there was an award for the person who pays the most attention to their brows, I’d probably win it! (no jokes).

Not many people know that brows hold centre stage in the beauty world and if you don’t get your brows right, it can cause a lot more damage than you think: if you over tweeze, it can make you look lifeless and if you draw them on too harshly, they can make you look angry (even when you’re not).

Here are some of the big no-no’s when it comes to brows and how to fix them:

1. Trying to match your hair colour exactly to your brow colour
Some people are under the impression that if the hair on their head is black then their eyebrows have to be black as well – WRONG. The same way blondes shouldn’t go around with blonde eyebrows, people with black hair shouldn’t go around with black eyebrows.

The fix: Fair haired gals should opt for something a few shades darker and dark haired gals should invest in something two or three shades lighter.

2. Changing the entire shape of your brow
You wouldn’t be the first to obsess over Rita Ora’s glamorous brows and while they look fabulous on her, it doesn’t mean that her brows on your face would do wonders for you – harsh, but true.

The fix: Remember, everyone has unique eyebrows and it’s up to you to treat your brows as best as you can. Have a look at my tutorial to see how you can shape your brows.

eyeBROW-SHAPED-PERFECTLY

3. Drawing on harsh lines and angles
If you’re using a brow pencil to fill in your brows, try not to lay it on too harshly. It will only make your brows look like they were tatted on – I’m pretty sure that’s not the look you want to go for.

The fix: A few light strokes should be enough to define the shape of your brow and then add some brow shadow to fill in the gaps. Remember to brush your eyebrows at the very end!

4. Not knowing where to end your brows
If your brows are too short they can make your nose look bigger than it actually is and if you don’t know how to do a nose contour, you’d be in a lot of trouble!

The fix: It’s all about symmetry really, but without getting too mathematical on this, just keep in mind that your brows should go as far as the corner of your eyes.

brows

5. Doing your brows first
I might as well admit to this now: I do this quite a lot. I know, shame on me! But it’s mostly because I do my brows without any intention of putting on foundation on afterwards, but then I just end up changing my mind – typical!

The fix: Since your complexion changes after you apply foundation, bronzer or blush, always try to do them at the end (I’m speaking to myself as much as I’m speaking to you here!).

I hope you found this post useful and do let me know if these tips help you with your brows! Just remember: brows, they’ll either make you or break you – it’s up to you to decide.

How to put mascara on like a pro

Eyes

featured

During the summer days, I like to keep my makeup to the minimum: a bit of lip gloss here, some eyebrow pencil there and of course, a pea size amount of face primermy holy grail beauty product. Less is certainly more I think, especially when you want to avoid having a makeup meltdown.

However, the one product I do enjoy layering up a couple of times is my mascarawaterproof mascara.  I absolutely love big lashes and I think they really add some life to my face. Not to mention how much little effort put on mascara requires.

If you want to draw immediate positive attention to your eyes, then you can follow these steps:

Step 1: Look straight and put the mascara wand at the base of your upper lash. Wiggle it from side to side while going in an upward direction.
Step 2: Coat the inner and outer part of your lashes until they have the length that you’re looking for.
Step 3: Let this dry so that it adds volume to your lashes the second time you coat.
Step 4: In the meantime, tilt your head a bit forward and then coat the bottom lash from the root to the tips – Don’t forget to wiggle!
Step 5: Repeat the process one more time and then let your lashes dry again.
Step 6: Use the tip of the wand to swipe across the tips of your upper lashes to extend them.

scandel tips

Notes:
Do keep some cotton buds handy in case you have a little accident!
Don’t pump the mascara wand in and out of the tube. Instead, twist it in a circular motion until you get the desired amount of product.
Do scrape off any excess mascara from the wand before you apply.

Didn’t I tell you it was such an easy process? Enjoy the sun ladies!

8 essential makeup brushes

Eyes/ product review

brushes essentials

When it comes to achieving a flawless makeup look, the quality of your makeup brushes is just as important as the quality of the products you use. Too often, people underestimate the power of a good makeup brush. They think any old makeup brush could do the trick when in reality, the most expensive makeup products won’t look as nice as they could if you don’t have the right brushes.

That’s not to say that we should all spend an arm and a leg on makeup brushes, you can still find good quality ones at a reasonable price. Once you have the essentials, you can take your time to build up your makeup brush collection.

Here are the brushes I think every woman needs to start off with.

Foundation brush
Whether it’s a flat sided foundation brush or a stippling brush, a quality foundation brush will ensure you don’t end up with a streaky finish or that dreaded painted look.

Concealer brush
A good concealer brush hides even the most sinful beauty problems. One of these could make you forget you ever had dark circles!

Angled eye brush
If it weren’t for this brush I would probably have bad eyebrows! This multi-purpose brush can be used to fill in your brows and give it the definition that it deserves and it can also be used on your lash line for eye liner.

Eye shadow brush
You may be tempted to use your fingers to apply eye shadow, but a flat eye shadow brush nicely gets the eye shadow onto your lid.

Eye shadow blending brush
Anyone who loves a good smokey eye, needs a good blending brush. Without one, you will be left with streaks and lines and that kind of defeats the purpose of ‘smokey’

Blusher brush
Angled blusher brushworks really well because you can also use it for contouring.

Powder brush
I like to set my makeup with a face powder brush so that everything stays intact. Primer is good, but when it’s used with setting powder your makeup lasts even longer.

Lip brush
A good lip brush helps your lip color penetrate deeply into your lips so that your lipstick lasts a lot longer.

3 ways to make your eyes look bigger using makeup

Eyes/ How To

cara-delevingne-profile

A lot of people forget that the eyes are the first thing a person sees when they look at you. Okay, so there’s the occasional eye drop down to your twins – yes there are some pervy people out there…..

But in general, the eyes are what a person first sees, so why not make the most of it and make your eyes bigger and brighter with these simple tricks.

1. Calm it down a few notches with the liner

Steer clear of black liner. The only thing black does for your eyes in make them look smaller. If you have pale skin stick to white liner on your water line and if you have dark skin go for a brown liner.

2. Brighten your inner corners

This is the oldest trick in the book, and possibly my favorite. My ‘go to’ makeup consists of a simple winged eye and gold shadow/ highlighter in the inner corners of my eyes to open them up. If you have fair skin then you should opt for a silver in your inner corners rather than a gold.

3. A good mascara

Nothing like a good mascara to get the job done! It makes all the difference in the world, believe me. With a good few coats of  a lengthening mascara, you will make your eyes look instantly bigger without using false lashes at all.

If you have any eye enhancing tips feel free to share them with me!

How to have perfect eyebrows

brows/ eyebrows/ Eyes/ How To

how to have perfect eyebrows

Today, Bellefbeauty.com has another tutorial for you, and of course it would have to be about eyebrows, because anyone who knows me would know that I’m eyebrow crazy, to me,  it’s probably one of the fastest (and easiest) ways to Enhance What’s Yours (not to mention how perfect eyebrows just lift your face!)

So how can you have perfect eyebrows? It’s really simple, and as you can see, you really don’t need that many tools (so if you dare to leave your house without your eyebrows done, this is perfect for when you’re on the go!)

Without further ado, here are the steps for having perfect eyebrows:

eyeBROW-SHAPED-PERFECTLY

  1. Pluck out any unwanted hair – it will only get in the way!
  2. Comb out your eyebrows
  3.  Using an eyebrow pencil, outline your eyebrows to the shape that you want it to have.
  4.  Use an eyebrow powder that complements you (avoid using black alone even if you have dark hair)
  5. Fill in your brows using a brow brush
  6. Get a concealer
  7. Conceal above and below your brow using a concealer brush to perfect your brows and ensure that they are perfectly shaped
  8. Add a highlighter under your arch
  9. Voila! The complete look with some mascara!

Note: If you have stubborn brows, finish up with eyebrow gel- this will set your eyebrows and make sure your hairs are not flying around the place!

I know these eye brows are no Cara Delevingne (it wouldn’t be right to talk about eye brows and not give her a mention!) but you have to remember not everyone can have the same eyebrow shape.

If you’re unsure of what shape your eyebrows should have, check out my first post on perfect eyebrows.

Are you big into brows like myself, if so then how do you normally do your brows?

Purple Smokey Eye Tutorial

Eyes/ How To/ tutorial

    smokey eyes

You have no idea how much hassle I had to go through to finally get this post up, from drafts magically disappearing to WordPress not allowing me to access my site! But the important thing is,I’m here now right?

So first things first, among many other goodies I got at The Ultimate Girls Day Out, the Rimmel Traffic Stopping Shadow was one of them so today  Bellefbeauty is finally going to show you a purple smokey eye tutorial with the Rimmel Traffic Stopping Shadow palette

smokey eyes steps

As you can see the colors look quite pigmented here, but I found that it wasn’t the case when they were applied onto my eyes (not impressed) , especially since I couldn’t wait to use the darkest shade of purple!

The palette also contains a little eye shadow applicator (I normally wouldn’t go near these for a smokey eye look because they key to getting a really strong smokey look is blend blend blend!)

To my surprise this worked out quite nicely here and I only actually used one other brush to achieve the smokey look below, so enough with the chit chat and check out the steps Bellefbeauty followed:

smokey eyes  smokey eye

Step 1: After applying an eye primer, start with the lightest shade of purple all over your eye lid as a base (if it’s not perfect, don’t worry because it’s only going to be blended anyways!)

Step 2: I know you can’t see it very clearly here but for this step I used the darkest purple on the crease and outer corner of the eyes to the shape that I wanted my smokey eyes to have (again, doesn’t have to be perfect just make sure its right below the brow bone this way we’ll have room to blend upwards!)

Step 3:  Apply the lightest shade of purple to the bottom lash line .

Step 4: Use a blending brush to blend the colors on the outer corner of your eyes in an upwards direction first and the slowly build your way to the center. Then using the same brush blend the colors on your bottom lash line.

Step 5: Once you’re happy with the smokey effect you can add eye liner on your lower lash line and upper lash line (I did both and added a bit of a flick)

Step 6: One this is done, add a good few coats of mascara (when it comes to smokey eyes, the bigger your lashes  the better!) of course you can add false lashes if you want them to be more dramatic, but I’m not a fan of them so I just like to stick to really good mascara, (I used lash domination here)

Step 7: Add some highlighter to each tear duct so that your eyes will pop out (in a good way) and also put some highlighter on your brow bone so the arch of your eyebrow will appear higher (oh la la….)

And there you go, 7 easy-steps to achieve this purple smokey eye look!

How to have naturally long eye lashes

Eyes/ How To/ Natural beauty

how to have naturally long eye lashes

I must admit that I am now ready to share one of my best kept secrets with you (of course I needed time to test my theory etc so do forgive me for keeping it for so long!) and what’s even better is that you can start to test this theory yourself starting tonight! That’s right, you can try it tonight so prepare yourselves ladies because in this very short article you’re going to learn how to have naturally long eyelashes…

What you need:

Cotton bud

Olive oil

What to do:

Every night before I go to bed, I take a cotton bud and dip it into a bit of olive oil then gently rub it on my eyelashes, after a couple of weeks I started to notice that my eyelashes started to get longer, even to a stage where I didn’t need  to wear mascara on a regular basis to make them stand out (of course I still wear it to add to the effect so now my eyelashes look even longer with mascara)

It’s that simple!

Generally olive oil has a nourishing affect when used on our skin or our hair, hence why it is often used for home made hair growth treatments or home made facials so it’s beyond me how we often forget to treat our eyelashes! At the end of the day it is hair, so no wonder it has the same effect!

Precaution:

You may wake up with puffy eyes if you put on too much olive oil, so make sure you avoid putting loads on your poor eyelashes! (we’re trying to better the situation, not make it worse)

I’m excited to hear if any of you try this at home! It’s worth a try, after all, what’s the worse that could happen?

P.S. Don’t forget to subscribe to this blog to be in a chance to take part of my free giveaway! If you’re using any products to grow your eyelashes, feel free to leave any comments below 🙂

Bobbi Brown, Extreme Party Mascara or Rimmel, Scandel Eyes?

Eyes/ product review

bobbi brown extreme party mascara

A lot of you may think that the answer to this is a given, but believe me, you will soon be very surprised when I give you my feedback on each mascara. I know I know, how dare I compare Rimmel to this world class makeup line, I mean how could I even put them both in the same sentence right?

Well the reason why I chose these two in particular is because  one  is my daily mascara while the other I use for nights out and you might be a bit shocked when I tell you which.rimmel scandel eyes mascara

When I first got Bobbi Brown, Extreme Party Mascara I was more than excited to use it for a night out, I mean let’s face it, the name ‘Extreme Party Mascara’ really does make you want to just let your hair down and get all dolled up! So that’s exactly what I did!

To my surprise, and I feel almost guilty to have to say this, but after a few hours of applying this mascara, my lashes were flat. My lashes were lifeless. And a lot of the product had  smeared off leaving flakes under my eyes.

The Rimmel, Scandel Eyes which I initially bought for an everyday use really took me by surprise as it did absolute wonders for my eyes! I instantly saw a difference in my lashes after applying this mascara as my lashes were fuller, longer and the product stayed put until I washed it off.

So which should you choose?

Honestly, it all comes down to what exactly you want your mascara to do I mean Extreme Party is a misleading name because it’s pretty much like any typical mascara. So if you’re looking for a natural curl and nothing too dramatic, I’d recommend you get something cheap and cheerful in your local chemist because Bobbi Brown, Extreme Party Mascara isn’t worth the money for it’s performance!

If you want something that adds extra length/volume to your lashes, something that  really IS waterproof and doesn’t come off until you want it to, then go for Rimmel Scandel Eyes! I know the packaging isn’t great and if you happen to fall asleep with this mascara on, it will hurt, but after all it only costs about 8 euros and I think it’s priced exactly where it should be!

Have you tried these products before? If so, did you experience the same things that I did?
