How to make your lips look fuller

How To/ lips/ Tips

ange

As much as I hate to admit it, we can’t all be Angelina’s.We can’t all be born with full lips and we can’t all have the courage – or money – to get fillers done. That’s just life!

But like most beauty-related dilemmas, there are ways around it. With the right tricks and techniques, you can make your lips look much fuller than they actually are – it’s all about perception!

Here are some of my suggestions for plumping up your pucker without getting any fillers. After these tips, you’ll be more than just a little ready for that kiss under the mistletoe 😉

Avoid the dark side

When it comes to making your pout appear fuller, lip colour matters. Avoid dark colours and shades, as they will only make your lips look smaller . Opt for lighter shades that are closer to your skin tone if you want to visually enlarge your lips.

Line it up

Use a lip liner close to the colour of your lips to draw around the natural line of your mouth. Try not to overdo it, because it will just look wrong altogether! When you’ve finish outlining, use the same pencil to fill in the lips. Smudge and rough lines before you apply your lippy/gloss.

Highlighting matters

Apply some highlighter right above your cupid’s bow and then use your finger to blend it in lightly. Then, use a brown liner beneath your lower lip line – the line shouldn’t be harsh at all. This highlighting and contouring trick will make your lips look like they are creating a shadow because they’re THAT much fuller!

A clever finish

If you want to give off the illusion of fullness, then it’s a good idea to avoid matte textures. They tend to diminish the actual size of your lips, while shiny finishes reflect light and make your lips look more luscious and full.

Pro tip: Use your toothbrush to exfoliate your lips every morning. This promotes blood circulation to the lips, which in turn will make them seem rosier and fuller. Added bonus? You get a temporary plump!

Highlighting and contouring

Beauty

Highlighting attracts and contouring detracts

Those are the cardinal rules to highlighting and contouring, something that anybody who has even the slightest interest in makeup should know so if you’re going to know anything about makeup, let it be this….

Do you ever wonder how Tyra Banks has a nose that looks so perfectly narrow, or how Kim K has those perfectly shaped cheekbones? Well believe you me, it’s not all natural and let me assure you that this look can be achieved by everyone and anyone with this simple little ‘trick’ called highlighting and contouring.

So what exactly is highlighting and contouring??
It’s all about bringing dimension and glow to the face! With the highlighting you bring out your features and draw attention to certain areas while the contouring does the opposite by diminishes other areas, almost like a shadow effect.
So what do you need:
1. Highlighters – Mac prep + prime highlighter is great (just under 30E)
 2.Contours – E.L.F Contouring Blush & Bronzer (cheap and cheerful! $3)
3.Foundation –  the usual (it should match your skin tone)
4.Setting powder – optional
Note:
Always moisturize your face before applying any make up! You don’t want your face to appear dry….

Kim K revealed…..

-Now that you know what you need, first start with applying the highlighter in the V area of your forehead, down your nose, under the eyes, cheekbones, on your brow line and chin as pictured above.
-Using a shade much darker than usual, contour under the cheekbones, on the temple, near the hair line, your jawline and contour the sides of the nose as well to make it appear thinner.
Note: if you look a bit scary after this, you’re on the right track!
-Now with a foundation that matches your skin tone blend everything in with a large brush and the lines should fade away gradually, eventually you see dimension just  blend blend blend!
If you use a setting powder, apply lightly to the face but generally, after this 3 step process you should have a beautifully defined , sculpted, yet NATURAL look!
This process takes the longest in my makeup application so if you spend over an hour on your face and you’re NOT highlighting and contouring, then I really don’t know what you’re doing!
What takes you the longest to complete in your makeup application process?

Gosh BB Skin Perfecting Kit

product review

gosh bb skin perfecting kit

If you’ve read my post on highlighting and contouring, you would know that I love the overall look achieved after sculpting and defining the face. So when I came across the Gosh BB Skin perfecting kit, it should be no surprise to you that I felt instantly drawn to it (with reason!)

At only 10.99, the Gosh BB Skin perfecting kit comes in two different shades: Light and Medium (as pictured above) The kit contains two concealers and one shimmering highlighter (which is fabulous)

How to use the Gosh BB skin perfecting kit:

1. Using your finger tips or a concealer brush, apply the lightest color concealer right under your eyes if you want to brighten up dark circles.

2. To cover up any other imperfections, mix the shades until you get the closest match to your skin tone.

3. And for my favorite step, use the highlighter under your brows and above your cheekbones for a fabulous finish!

Remember: If you use a powder foundation, conceal first, if you use a liquid foundation, conceal after!

Now for my honest opinion:

Because I’d use the Gosh BB skin perfecting kit for a day look, I’m not too pushed on the pasty concealers that would normally be suited for a night time look. The highlighter however is a very close match to my skin tone (with a bit of a sparkle) so I found it perfect for enhancing the shape of my eye brows and for giving me higher raised cheek bones.

Normally I would use MAC prep + prime highlighter, but again, I’d rather use that for a night time look so the Gosh BB skin perfecting kit really saved me from using my MAC highlighter on a daily basis.

Have you used the Gosh BB skin perfecting kit yet? If so feel free to leave your thoughts and feedback below!
