Christmas gifts for her

Top products/ women

gifts for her

Working in a department store is the ultimate test of self control: I’m constantly tempted to buy the products I think I need – but will probably never use – and spend every day powering through the pain of being surrounded by things that I desperately want, but are way out of my price range.

Luckily, Christmas is a time for receiving gifts as well as giving them so while you’re shopping around for your mammy, sister and female friends, do keep in mind the things you’d like to add to your Christmas list too!

Here are some of my lovely gift suggestions for him:

Top 6 concealers under €10

Top products

no7revlon photowitch concealercol

The festive season is upon us, so in my world – and in many other people’s worlds – the annual pre-Christmas splurge has already begun. It is time to start digging into our savings and start shopping for gifts. Unfortunately, that means we can’t really spend as much on ourselves as we would like to – especially when it comes to beauty products!

Luckily, not all beauty products are out of reach and some inexpensive ones can give us similar results to the high end products.

Here are six concealers that won’t break the bank:

SEVENTEEN Phwoarr Paint

This under eye concealer can hide a multitude of sins. It has a smooth and creamy texture and is more than just a little forgiving to dark circles. It can be a little drying for some people so be sure to use it with a primer.

This award-winning concealer has an easy-to-apply formula that provides coverage for all sorts of flaws and imperfections. It evens out the skin tone and is also shine-free. The one thing I like about this product is that it’s available in up to 17 different shades – we can’t really fault it, can we?

Witch Concealer

The Witch Concealer is great for hiding the odd spot and blemishes. This cosmetic stick has an extract of Witch Hazel which means it’s treating your skin at the same time! It works well for those who have a pale complexion or oily skin.

Top 5 red lipsticks for any skin tone

Top products

top 5 reds

Many women don’t have the confidence to wear a red lippy: some think they’re far too bright, while others would rather stick to a safer option. But, a good red lipstick can easily transform your look and give you that extra va va voom!

Here are the five red lipsticks that I think stand out above all the rest (well, above the one’s I have tried anyways!):

Rimmel Moisture Renew Red Alert
This affordable red lipstick is definitely a must-try. Not only does it instantly add glamour to your look, but it also keeps your lips pretty moisturised – it really is a great steal for the money! PRICE: €6.99, Boots

Yves Saint Laurent Rouge Pur Couture
If you want to treat yourself to something special, then this is red lippy will do the trick. It’s intense, seductive and passionate – it basically has everything a red lipstick should have! PRICE: €33.00, Debenhams

No 7 Love Red
If you like a vibrant red with a long lasting finish, then No7 Love Red would be worth a try. It has a slightly matte finish so it stays put even after a few glasses of wine! PRICE: €12.75, Boots

NARS Jungle Red
I don’t think I’ve ever come across someone with a bad review of this product.  This semi matte lippy is pretty easy to apply and it also has everlasting power – perfect for the 50’s pinup look. PRICE: €26.00, Nars Cosmetics

jungle red

Ruby Woo by MAC
This will always be my number red lipstick. I genuinely think it’s one of those shades that suits the majority of skin tones! Have a look at the full review of this lipstick here.

Top 3 primers for smooth skin

product review/ Top products

primer collage

Now that the sun has finally started to come out, it’s only fair that I do a review on the products you (and I) will probably need in the next couple of weeks (if we’re lucky, that is).

bareMinerals Prime Time
This is a reasonably priced primer that has a velvety finish. Unlike the other two, the bareMinerals Prime Time is gel based. This means, it’s pretty easy to work with. It’s great for flaky skin as well as oily skin (as long as you only use a pea-size amount). I don’t think it does much for hiding pores, but it does help your makeup stay put for much longer.
PRICE: €23.00, Debenhams

Garnier 5 Sec Blur
This primer is perfect for older gals as it’s great for filling in fine lines and wrinkles. It creates a smooth base for your foundation and you only really have to use a tiny bit of product to get the full effect. The mousse-like consistency makes it the perfect dupe for Clarins Instant Smooth Perfecting Touch, meaning you get the same results for only a fraction of the price!
PRICE: €16.39, Boots

Benefit The POREfessional
If you read my review on this primer, you’d know that I’m a big fan of it. I think it pretty much does what is says on the tin (minus the smoother than silk part). It has lasted me for over nine months now and I still have a lot of product left – that’s what you call getting your money’s worth! Have a look at the full review of this product here.

Top 3 mascaras for longer lashes

product review/ Top products

As you might or might not know, I am crazy about eyes. A strong brow and long lashes always get the job done. Especially when you’re going for the ‘natural’ look.

Here my top 3 picks for mascaras that really make your eyes stand out:

1. BareMinerals Lash Domination,  €21.00 in Debenhams (see full review here).

2. Rimmel Scandal Eyes, €8.65 in Boots (see full review here).

3. Benefit They’re Real, €26.00 in Brown Thomas

Unlike the first two, They’re Real mascara by Benefit doesn’t give you that spider eye look. They do make your lashes longer, but I just find that Lash Domination and Scandal Eyes make my lashes look much thicker than they are (a bit of deception never killed anyone!)

Let me know if you use any of these mascaras and what you think of them!
